A new web site from Louis Poulsen is now online, dedicated to the many owners of one (or more than one) of its famous lamps mounting incandescent light bulbs.
stayplugged.louispoulsen.com is the address of the new web site. By 2012, the incandescent lamp will have been phased out, indeed, and already by September 2009 the first ramifications of this EU decision will be felt. Therefore, the question is if and how they can be replaced with halogen or energy saving or LED sources without damages for the light’s quality and nature.

Louis Poulsen constantly tests and evaluates a broad range of light sources in fixtures. Some are better than others, and it is important to emphasize that light source quality differs greatly. Well, the new web site aims at making this clear, giving general information on the parameters to take into account when choosing alternative light sources (colour rendering, shape and size, etc.) and publishing a detailed product table with the light bulbs it’s possible to use instead of those in the catalogue.

The alternatives listed in the mentioned table, that users can download directly from the web site, were evaluated with following questions in mind:

  • Is there enough space for the light source?
  • If the light source is visible - is the shape acceptable and similar to the original intentions?
  • Is the lighting experience close to the original – in terms of shadows, light level, etc.?

Louis Poulsen’s suggestions are: view the colours under the incandescent lamp and then the energy-saving lamps, choose the energy-saving lamp you find gives the best rendition of the picture, taste differs, and buy a good-quality energy-saving lamp for optimum lighting experience and as long life as possible.
“But our best advice on energy saving is: turn off the light when you leave the room – you will be surprised how much this and using energy-saving lamps will save you in electricity bills”.
