The light work is part of a research project whose aim is to define the architectural body of Preludium VI 851 from The Well-Tempered Clavichord by J.S. Bach; it is an extract of this fugue and specifically measures 17 and 18.
The light work is divided into three equal parts: the two lateral sections represent silence/darkness, the central part represent music/light. Music opens a passage through the darkness. Each of the twenty plexiglas sheets comprising the piece has a different thickness which is related to the musical notes. The upper portion of each piece is painted white ad is hence opaque. The light can only came through the sides of each sheet. Therefore it is light that describes the difference of the notes. If all the notes were the same, the sculpture would be dark.
