Donatella Mei
All my works of the last few years refer, even in their titles, to lightness: Lieve, Light, Trans-apparenza or even Velatura, with illusion to technique used in ancient oil-painting. It’s light that reveals colors, depth and volume. Light is lightness, imponderability, the removal of weight, to search for dematerialization. In Boboli light is matter and material at the same time. Light and shade intersect and are reflected through the thin sheet of plexiglas, reflecting the transparence of water and the reflection of plants that surround it, in an ‘above’ that is also ‘below’, in an ‘in’ that is also ‘out’, a metaphor for the fountains of the Boboli Garden in Florence.
