The Targetti Light Art Collection is a collection of contemporary artworks which use artificial light as expressive tool and primary content.
Created by Paolo Targetti and curated by Amnon Barzel, founder and former director of the Pecci Museum in Prato and the Judisches Museum in Berlin, the Targetti Light Art Collection it is the result of a fruitful synergy between the worlds of scientific research and artistic creativity. This synergy is based on a deep consciousness that light is a magic and powerful phenomenon that should not be interpreted just as technology and function.
During its first ten years, thanks to the contribution of some of the most renown international artists and of the emerging talents who won the Targetti Light Art Award, the Targetti Light Art Collection became one of the most prestigious collections dedicated to the Light Art.
The collection inherits a great artistic tradition started with the first human creations linked to the light, that became mature in the Fifties with Lucio Fontana’s and Dan Flavin’s luminous installations.
Permanently exhibited at Villa La Sfacciata, home of the Targetti Foundation, since 1998 the Targetti Light Art Collection has been shown in over 30 art galleries and museums around the world. A catalogue published by Skira tells this fascinating story.
